Trigger Green Lights!

I've never really had a problem triggering them on this bike...others yes, but not the fz6r for some reason...

This was one of the concerns I had when I was looking to buy (cheep Kansas roads). The guy at the dealer said that the all steel frame was going to help allot. I have not had a problem with a light yet. But I'm still looking.

Had it happen once, when jspansel and I both sat on a sensor...

Haven't had it happen much since then, but just a habit I've formed, if there happens to be a cage behind me, I'll pull slightly ahead and let the cage sit on the sensor, that really helps.

Used to have this happen on my 10 speed (it's been 20yrs..........), but with it, I could lay the bike down and it would set it off. Just depends on the sensitivity of the sensors.

Thanks for the link.

Have had it happen to me many times. There's a few intersections around here that you just know aren't going to catch you. I've used all of their techniques. Sometimes they work, sometimes you just have to either wait for a car to come up behind you, run the red light when it's clear (very risky) or try to make a right turn on the red if you can and make a u turn. The one I'd say works best is to put the side stand down while the bike is in gear. It'll cut the engine, you set the side stand on the ground for a second, stand it back up, and start it back up. You get the stand on the wire plus the magnetic field from the starter.

Had this happen to me and haven't tried this yet.

I went ahead and bought the green light red light trigger from Cycle Gear and it hasn't happened to me a lot. I tested it and it works.

I'm w/ JonKerr... dropping the sidestand usually works. However, I'll do this in neutral (if not on a hill) to keep the motor running.

I know it varies by state, but here in TN, if your bike won't trip a sensor, you can LEGALLY run the red as long as cross-traffic is clear (obviously), and you've waited a "reasonable" time.

I've had this happen quite a few times when trying to make a left turn. There has been times that I have waited through two lights and even trying the kick stand trick, it hasn't changed. So now if I realize the light didn't sense the bike, I approach it as a left turn on green with yield.

Not in Cali. A friend of mine got a nice fat ticket for doing just that. He thinks the CHP sit and wait for it at this particular light. It went 4 cycles so when there was nobody in sight, he went. Cop was sitting in a driveway just behind him waiting for him to go.

good to know! I remember the 2nd day i had my bike i was waiting at a light and a cop creeped up behind me (i got nervous, i just do with cops) and when i looked back again he was gone. I realized later in the day that he was trying to help me trip the sensor because he knew that it wouldn't pick up my bike.
