Anyone else find it odd (I won't mention any particular vendor) that when jackets are down to $60 range... gloves, boots and other accessories are at the $50-100 range still? I mean, I just got my $400 jacket (last year price) for $100, yet a glove that was $150 is still $110

Any insight out there, did they just make too many jackets and only a handful of the other protective gear.... just seems really odd to me.

Stores are allowed to set sale prices sometimes based on pricing that their suppliers will give them. So sometimes they'll get a bigger rebate if they sell more of the old jackets and not so much on the other items. Especially if there isn't that much if any difference between the old and new versions of something like gloves or boots, but most of the time jackets look completely different.

Maybe markup is a lot higher on jackets and helmets.

could just be inventory cost tho... i know the local superstore here marks stuff down a lot just to get rid of the inventory. 4 year old jackets sitting on the racks that aren't selling take up a lotta space. and, they need room to display newer items i'm guessing...

This is how much of the online industry works.

MAP Pricing. Minimum advertised price. Your $400 jacket may have been on MAP. Once the Vendor removed the MAP policy on that jacket, the store decided to slash the price down to nothing.

The Vendor may have kept the gloves on MAP policy which would restrict the store from advertising them any lower than a set dollar amount.

I guess I'm just looking more and more at prices....

being broke quick sucks... only takes getting new tires on a cage, new tires on the bike and having a kid dislocate her arm and needing physical therapy twice a week (at $30 copays EA time, + all the other non-covered bs from insurance that's coming in) to make money fly out the door faster than it comes in, all this within a month or two.

6 months ago, I wouldn't have thought twice about $60 gloves... heck, three months ago I bought my leather jacket.... but if crap doesn't all happen at once....

But, just seeing $60-70 jackets made me start thinking I'd find a $20-30 gauntlet glove somewhere. This is the best I've found so far: Cortech by Tour Master Injector Motorcycle Gloves :: New Enough

just don't know, might grab them while they are that low.

Don Don Don... You know it's only because every manufacturer KNOWS your looking for new gloves.. hehe jk

I like those gloves and I feel you on being broke. I'd shoot for those yellow ones in a heart beat if I didn't have to give in to my old St, loans.. 5 years to go! $350 broker each month..

Speed and Strength Twist of Fate ST Gloves - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore

So, I broke down and spent $30 on these (red)... will see how they hold up. Online reviews say break-in takes a while, but I'd expect that from a quality leather anyway. I ordered LG per their size guide, will update on how close it is and what I think of them when they get here.
