A quick google search netted a bunch of hits with other people having the same problem with various bikes.. Here's a good example.

Well I looked, I didn't see anything.

I also did a search, seemed a lot of the people had issues when the sun was hitting the inside of the shield as opposed to coming from the front, said it acted like a convex mirror, more than a magnifying glass.

So, if you really wanted to see, you could pop off the shield on a good sunny day, put a piece of paper on the ground and see if you can ignite it... maybe Yamaha thought we all camped and wanted to make sure we could start our own fires if we ever got stranded.

Did we ever get the answer whether or not the dealer foot the bill for this? I hope you can get it fixed man.

I have an appointment next week. The service guy said "we'll collect the information and send it to Yamaha and see what they say." I'll post back what they decide. It's kind of superficial, but I'm pretty superficial as well

I just got a call from the dealer - the Yamaha rep happened to be there when he was looking at my bike and they're going to cover replacing the meter cover. I think partly because it was a Yamaha windscreen (clear double bubble).

Awesome. Glad to hear it. Just make sure that you tint the windscreen or hide it in the shade or something after all that work is done...I am sure you don't want a repeat...

Sad - it happened again. Much less melting than last time - maybe because it was only 65 degrees outside. Maybe I need to park somewhere else
