Nice... though I'm not a huge fan of the half naked look.

Are there fairings to cover it up?

Yes they sell full fairings for them...around $600-700. That is a nice bike.

So why did you pick the FZ1 over the R1? Just curious

Fz1r

I wet myself a little bit when I first saw this FZ1 with fairings. N2OEQIP's would look real nice with the gold wheels and fairings. Personally, I would rather have the FZ1 over an R1 for the same reasons I bought the FZ6R over an R6...move comfortable, all-around bike. Easier to tour on, commute on, cruise on...I'm kinda jealous now.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand the FZ1 and the R1 have identical drive trains. Performance between the two bikes should be pretty similar.

Your pitching tent over there joloy??? That's a wet dream for me.....
But if I had to choose between Aprilia RSV4 and BMW GS1200R Adventure ... (and yes I realize these two have different purposes) I really don't know. What I know is that right now the FZ6R is enough bike for me, maybe when I'll outgrow it I'll get a FZ1R, if the above mentioned wet dreams aren't in the budget ).

Not identical, but pretty close. Compression and bore/stroke are different. Kind of like the FZ6 vs FZ6R...same engine per se, but engineered a little different.

I don't think that's true. The 2009 r1 has a cross plane crank. Only one out there. Plus undertail dual exhaust. It may have a version of a past R1 engine, similar to the 6R using a version of the 03-05 R6 engine. But performance between our bike and an 05 R6 is miles apart.

Jon is correct. The FZ1 is based off the non-cross plane R1 engine, has a different intake and cam and different gearing.

Congrats on the new FZ1! Did you already sign up at the sister site: FZ1-Forum.com International Yamaha FZ1 Community ? Come over and learn all the cool mods you can do, many for FREE!

Also, check out http://www.copperdawg.com for the FZ1. Nice stuff! I just ordered the Strike seat cowl, complete blinker pod set and the medium scallop speed screen. :woot: Mine will look just like this one soon!
