How many miles does everyone get to a full tank of gas? I just broke 100 miles of break in and it seems that this thing is just sucking gas down. On my last bar before E and the dealership had topped it off.... so they said.

check here: Fuel Guage and "F-Trip"
1 bar will last a while, when you hit the F-TRIP, you got about 25-50 miles left before it's empty. I've been getting about 48 miles/gal, I get to about 170 miles and the F-TRIP comes on. I can usually get two days into work (about 80miles/day) before I fill up, I just don't like running it down much lower than that. |

I usually fill the tank to the bottom plate (the one w/ the nozzle hole & 5 smaller ones) of the fuel filler. I can then ride 145 miles before the fuel gauge switches to reserve, then I'll go another 35 before refueling w/ approximatelly 4.2 gallons.
My bike has close to 1600 miles and has been averaging 43 mpg commuting mostly on the curvy roads. Last edited by ksanbon; 03-05-2010 at 04:36 PM. |

Excellent post so far guys. So after the last gas bar I should see an f-trip light up on the guage? Breaking in slowly, havent gotten above 7k rpm I think. This bike just wants to pull and pull after about 6k

I'm identical to dart here ay averaging 48 MPG. That's shifting at upper 5k-6k RPM and mostly steady freeway speeds. If I take it out to the twisties, I'll get 42-43 MPG. But, I'm also in the higher RPM's then and on/off the throttle more. Once F-trip comes on, I try to keep it less than 25 miles to be safe. When the F-trip comes on, your gauge will flash and your trip/ODO will say F-trip with how many miles you have gone on F-trip.

Your mileage is very sensitive to the type of riding you're doing. I don't get nearly the mileage these guys get because all I really ride is the twisty mountain stuff and run in the 6-10k rpm range. I try and keep myself in the lower gears and in the power band. You can get yourself bogged down shifting at 6-7k. It's fine for commuting, but when you're getting spirited on the fun stuff, you want to keep her wound up higher. I get maybe 38-40 mpg at the most. I have had days where I'm riding mostly freeway or fairly straight consistent back roads and the mileage goes way up. But when I'm in 2nd for 40 miles at a time and go from doing 30mph around a hairpin and accelerate out up to 65 or 70 and slow back down for the next turn it tends to burn up a little more fuel.

Yeah, the bike seems a little more sensitive then cars to driving conditions. Also, if you've only taken short trips, you won't get the 48mpg, I think that's about the best you can expect. I couldn't tell you what I get on the weekends (I tend to just have fun and fill up as needed), but I do pay attention when going to work. Just keep in mind, if you hit F-TRIP, don't push more than 15 miles to be on the safe side. And if your not riding all the time, try to keep it full to prevent humidity build-up in the tank. |
