Default EZ Pass, SunPass, E Pass

Those who own an E Pass or some sort of automated electronic toll payment should rejoice!

My story: Sometimes my Epass doesn't work on toll roads, sometimes it does. I wasn't that worried as I heard from a friend and a few other people from other forums say it'll just take a picture of your tag, see what it's connected to and if you have an account it'll automatically take it from there. Which is great now that I don't carry my epass with me, I have it in my brother's car.

Now I got a mail from the toll center about running tolls. In Florida you get 3 free a month, meaning you can run 3 tolls for free and you'll have no penalty, but after that they charge you + document fee or something. Anyways, it took a picture of my "plate" and I called them up and said how sometimes my epass doesn't work etc etc they asked for the tag that violated it and I told them. They said how it didn't match up to my bike and I went outside and looked, it was my brother's bike that was under my name. He did pay me back for it and I added his bike under my epass account.

Now I confirmed that you don't need to have the transponder on you, just the tag. Also, I told her that when I made my account my vehicle model wasn't listed so I just put it as a Yamaha R6. She asked if it was a newer vehicle and I said yes and asked me what it was and I said Fastest Team Yamaha Blue FZ6R and so she added my bike model and changed it!

The Fast Trak here in the Bay Area works the same too. You just have to be current on your account and have all your vehilces listed on there as well. Right now, during commute hours, you can go through FREE on motorcycles (and carpools), but they are talking about charging a small fee to cross the bridges for carpoolers and motorcycles....guess I'll have to put my paper dealer plate back on!

I got a similar toll violation notice here in MD, i did'nt had the transponder on my bike just on the car but had both vehicles on the EZ-Pass a/c so i thought its ok if i use the VA toll roads on my bike, they sent me the letter that i did'nt pay for the tolls which is crazy, had to fax them the documents, sort it out.. etc.. crap!

I live in Colorado, and we have a private toll road, which has very high tolls. I forgot to notify the toll authority about the addition of my bike, and called them to add my plate number, as well as get a transponder sent out. I had been riding on the toll road to the tune of about $40 in one month prior to calling them.

When they pulled up my plate number, they had zero violations, and the call taker said that motorcycles were extremely difficult to read the plate numbers on, especially at night, even with their high tech cameras. The plates have to have some reflectivity to them for them to register on the cameras. Mine is mounted at an angle, with the F.E. kit.

Now, after 44 years of being an honest citizen, and her open dialogue, I will not be carrying that stupid transponder in my pocket, nor mounting that hideous thing anywhere on my bike. I am going to just ride and see if they can actually get a good pic of my plate.....I am rebelling against the oppression of the man I guess.....

Honestly I would do the same thing, on my first bike I used the velcro on my windshield and it looked horrible, so I'm not doing it on my FZ6R. My friend mounted his transponder somewhere in the fairing of his bike, but he said sometimes it doesn't go off, oh well I'd rather go with my tag then carry it around.

I can relate to that, I have my transponder mounted inside the fairing. Chicago land is blessed with a multitude of toll roads... so there's no way around it, oh well, the plate is on my account, hopefully they can't read it.
