My daughter and her one brother who's 22 don't even have license, only thier older brother does. They live outskirts of Philadelphia and use public transportation and see no need for a car.

When I was a kid my uncle used to pop wheelies with me all the time, he had a Yamaha Tenere XT600 in the 80's. He almost killed himself on that bike and never ride again after that. He was a great model for me - what not to do....

When I had my FZ6 my wife loved to ride with me. Yes it is much heavier but then again everything is slower then. We only do fun/cruising rides.

The first time she'd ride with me (before we got married), the first corner (slow), she counter steered, wow it scared the sh!t out of me. I stopped just there and told her what to do or this will be the last time. Since then gradually we've sort out some hand signals or taps for communications (two taps on her left knee mean, HOLD ON WE'RE GOING TO LAUNCH - out of cruising mode ). Fidgeting around was one of the problems.

REMEMBER - ALWAYS GEAR THEM UP AS YOU DO WITH YOURSELVES.

We love riding together, the bonding thing. I'm looking at getting the FZ6R and a Baby Ninja 250 for her. When she gets better she can get the FZ6R and I can get my dream...Hopefully we'll get riding again soon...

I have had a Yamaha XT 600 for the past 8 years and my wife (of over 21 years) never had any desire to get on that ride with me. She says that she wants to go on the FZ6R but thinks the seat is too small for her ass. Have been riding for 33 years but not many miles with a passenger. Will take wife out anytime she is willing.

As long as they can reach the pegs and follow directions...keeping the ride safe is up to you.

Sounds like a new thread to me??? How to get your kids hooked on motorcycles and the gear needed??? Sounds like you have experience and can share some of it with the rest of us Dad's out here.

When I was young, my dad's mode of transportation was a motorcycle, dont remember what it was, but he said it was a 120cc or something like that. My dad, my mom (on back), my brother and me all on one bike. We, (the kids) were on the tank. lol

Of course, this was in our native country, not here in the US.

Anyways, you guys reminded me of my first time carrying a passanger. It was my current gf, and she had only a helmet and it was in the neighborhood, we never made it past 30 mph. I told her not to lean at all, and to just on my back the whole time and just flow with it. She did really well, and she was excited for the short ride. We eventually moved past the neighborhood and ventured to a 45mph speed limit road and she was freaking out with the turns.

By then, she had the general idea of what leaning was, and i told her to look the same way we were turning, and she did rather well.

ON the highway, I had pull over, cause I was freaked when she started wobbling all over the place trying to get comfy. That only happened once. lol

Afte that, she's the one giving me the signal to go faster. We hit...xxx digits once, just for fun, but after that i told her that i cant risk the ticket :P

Now, with the FJR, I hope she will be far more comfortable, and maybe...just maybe, make her want to ride one of her own. OR, she may just fall in love with the FJR so much that she wont ever want to ride and just be back there with the big cushy seat.

bump... every time someone votes.... I keep thinking Verranth is piping up...

But, to keep on subject, I will add. Wife's helmet is with a co-worker waiting to be airbrushed. He's had a couple mishaps, first, he had it finished, clear coated and all (just drying), then his wife opened the door and swept out the kitchen dust into his garage....

Then weather turned cold and the paint wasn't cooperating (no heated garage)... So, hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll get to take the wife for a spin.

I'm thinking the bikes so nimble, even if she moves a bit, it won't be hard to control or compensate, just odd, since I've only been riding since Aug. and all by myself.

Her shifting her weight around is the biggest thing that will scare the crap out of you. And the fact the bike is so nimble is exactly why. Her little bit of movement could cause the bike to do a lot more than you expect. Just be careful and if she's too fidgety, pull over and let her get comfortable. You need to be adamant about her being still and not over leaning or counter leaning. Because she's the one who's going to be hurt the most if you end up going down because of her movements. If she's never been on a bike, she may not fully grasp how dangerous it really is. Kristen didn't really get it until she sat her butt on the bike for the first time.
