Default Almost Got My Bike Stolen

Was sleeping just now and I heard a Giant Bang, Followed by my alarm going off. I rushed outside to see that my brother's bike had fallen on it's side (Ninja EX500) and thought that the wind had did it. Until he said that it looks like someone tried to steal his bike because my other brother's bedroom window was smashed.

I haven't did a full check to see if there were damages to my bike yet since it's dark, but thank god I had an alarm that set them off.

Brother is calling the cops as I type this.

Update:

No damage done to my FZ6R thankfully. Only a little bit for the Ninja. Pressing Charges, for the broken window and attempted grand thief auto. Funny thing is the cop thought my bike was a R6... sigh. Also off topic but My E Pass (EZ Pass for tolls on the freeway) doesn't have the FZ6R as an option so I just selected my vehicle as an R6.

Also when we were filling out the report, at the end we had to write "I did not give anyone permission to break my window or steal my bike". Which I find pretty funny...

wow, well the alarm did it's job so that great.

did you guys catch the perps?

god, the police over there are quick, where in the US are you? over here they probably wouldn't come out as it would not be considered serious.

let us know how this pans out (sentencing etc).

I love it...someone tries to jack your bike, and the first thing you do...before you talk to the police is jump on the forums...

Glad your bike is ok...

Lol, while waiting for the police to arrive, I had nothing else to do. Looking around the crime scene etc, seeing if anyone had this happen to them.

I live in the US, Orlando, Florida where the weather is sunny sometimes and hence bikes get stolen a lot. My neighborhood has had plenty of issues and so police know. They said it's their second time in this neighborhood this week, before some guy wanted to kill himself or something.

I work in Dallas and had a friend one time bring his motorcycle (it was Italian but not Ducati) in his friend's pickup to our office - at lunch he was takking it in for service - they stole the truck with the bike in the back - no insurance - had to pay it off and nothing to show for it - that sucks - so I am paranoid - I park up on the sidewalk somewhere next to a pole and use a cable to secure it - but at least these bikes don't get stolen like the R1s and R6s. At least the cable will slow them down a little bit. LOL

A little bit...very little bit. I just read an article the other day out of Road Racing World Mag saying that it takes less than 1 minute for MC Thieves to steal a motorcycle without punching the ignition!

Pretty scary to think.

When I bought my bike I talked with the finance guy a lot about theft. San Diego is usually one of the top 3 cities in the country for bike theft. That's why I got TAG insurance. He's had 4 bikes in 8 years stolen. He said they had one taken from right in front of the dealership. They usually work in a 4 man team. one driving the van, and three in the back. One will have a set of bolt cutters and/or a plasma cutter ready if it's locked to anything, then the three of them pick up the bike, put it in the van and go. Disk locks and all. I have an alarm on mine mainly just to keep shit head kids off of it (which has worked already) but if someone wants your bike, they will get it and 99% of the time you'll never get it back. It'll be in pieces probably before you know it's gone.

Yeah, glad your bike is ok! I agree with Jonkerr, I think that although alarms are great deterrents, if someone really wants your bike, they'll take it.

I don't think these guys were professionals like everyone else. Just some neighborhood hooligans. I still need to talk to my family about getting anti theft insurance.

Still am a bit paranoid at work, when I park my motorcycle on the sidewalk and it's blocked off by cars. So they would have to lift the bike up and walk with it down the whole side walk.

The alarm just keeps me secure mentally. So I don't check up on it every 3 minutes, I check up on it every 10 minutes
