I'm in a dilemma ... I don't want to pay 300 bucks on a new set of tires but also don't want to have a mishap because I was cheap either. I feel pretty good in my skin and I've decided to keep it
.I was recommended both options, plug it and replace it. What do you guys think?

To me, this is about an individuals acceptance level for risk. If a tire blows on my car, no problem. If a tire blows on my bike, especially in a corner, ouch....
I would patch it and ride cautiously until I got home. Then I'd replace it. |

Guess it really depends on how much life the tire has left in it... if it's relatively old, no question, good excuse to get an upgraded tire.... but if it's still halfway usable, it'd be a tough call...

there are plenty of people out there with patched tires that have no issues for the life of the tire. Personally, I would never ride on a patched tire, my life and bike are worth more than a few hundred bucks for new ones.

I agree. Plus, you only really need to replace the one punctured tire unless you don't like the tires your running with.

11 years in the tire business and I would follow PIZZ's advice.

I rode on a patched tire for about 400 miles. I thought I'd feel fine but I just always felt nervous about it. So as soon as I had the cash to do it, I got new tires.

Biker told me a story about how he was young and patched his tire. The heat got to his tire and it popped on him and he hit a gaurd rail and shattered his collar bone.
yeah no, i'm not risking that.

I just had that issue. While checking my tire pressure I found that I had a nail in my tire. I just left it in there and got it replace a couple days later. It was the rear tire and it cost me $162 total. that is them taking it off and putting it back on, the whole nine. I asked some people about those patch kits people talk about and it sounds like they are donuts on a car. Not really good to ride on for a long time but will work to get you home safely. Either way you go I wish you the best. Take care bud.
