Sure enough! But still baffles me as to why Kawi would put such a large one on theirs.

Maybe the design was creating too much of a low pressure behind the screen and creating nasty turbulance...so they put in a gap to help with that?? Or, maybe they are just little silly people...

Let’s do any easy numbers comparison for all three bikes:
650R: 71bhp, 49lb/ft, 204kg/449.5lbs, .35bhp:kg, .24lb/ft:kg
400R: 42bhp, 27lb/ft, 203kg/447.5lbs, .20bhp:kg, .13lb/ft:kg
250R: 30.5bhp, 16lb/ft, 170kg/375lbs, .18bhp:kg, .09lb.ft:kg
I don't think you're sounding like a pecker at all. And I do appreciate the comparo there - it does add perspective...

Tell ya what would be awesome - a 42hp/27lb/ft producing engine in a 400lb package - that would be a smooth, light learner that people wouldn't outgrow in 6 months... And dammit, the ability to adjust things so someone under 5'4" can get their feet on the ground...Keeps the aftermarket in business I s'pose.

Cool, CDN6R.

Actually, my very first bike was a 1980 Yamaha XS400 Heritage Special. I think that was a perfect beginner's bike. 36 hp and 400 lbs. wet. What on earth has happened to simple, light bikes? Why are so many bikes heavy, over-styled and over-priced?

My first bike was a 77 Honda Cb 750 K. I was 21,never riden a bike before and had not finished my 3 months probation with my employer(Michelin Tire). I took the Motorcycle Saftey Course the next summer and got my license I would still love to have a Honda CB 400 F or my old RD 350 L/C back
