Howdy! About two weeks after buying my bike I had come to a stop sign, that was on a downgrade to the right.......so once I had stoped the bike started tipping more and more to the right, I had caught it just before the bike had hit the ground......I thought I was good until I had accidentaly rolled onto the throttle! I heard my bike pealing out and then it flung around me! Luckily there was just a little bit of dammage! There was a few scratch marks on the bottom of the fairing and some on the engine cover! Nothing some touch up paint couldn't fix! Anyways! The Morale of the story is..........push the kill switch if you think you are going to drop your bike! Wish I had thought about that!

Thanks for sharing. Yep, if you are going to drop the bike, it's a good idea to kill the engine once you get past that point of no return.

Pulling the clutch is the best way to stop the wheel from turning and alot faster than the killswitch can't tell you how many times pulling the clutch has saved me from a spill.

I also came to a downgrade that ran down to the right at a red light. I was going to turn right so I came to a stop at the red light and hit the front brake....the bike immediately tried to fall over to the right and I used all my strength to save it....close one!

That's how I gently set my bike on its side the first time I had it out. I came to a stop, but didn't have the front wheel straight, and the bike dove to the right side. Luckily, I was able to keep it from crashing down and I just carefully laid it down and then picked it back up and rode off. I haven't looked back since and I learned a valuable lesson. Make sure the front wheel is straight when you come to a stop, or the bike will want to dive the direction the wheel is pointing.

My bike went to the left, slightly scratched the engine case and bent the clutch lever. Luckily this was before the flushmount signals, so my stock signal kept the fairing from taking damage.

I wish I could say that I "saved it from going down", but I just don't have the leverage for that. I'm a bit on the short side.

Boy oh boy I feel a lot better after reading this thread...

I dropped mine last year, late in the season. I was stopping/stopped so its more like I layed her down on her right side (on my leg). The stock turn signal mostly protected my fairing - there are some tiny scratches from the asphalt but they look more like dirt, and since they're mostly in my graphics, you don't notice them until you're right next to the bike.

Very valuable lesson learned. Turning the front wheel makes the bike go down. Whooops!

(I was doubly pissed when I couldn't pick her back up by myself... I'm not that strong. I have since learned a better technique should anything this embarassing ever happen again...)

I dropped mine the very first day I got it in my garage. Went out for a short ride around the block, met a buddy of mine, showed my bike, and on my way back to garage I had to make a u-turn, right in front of my friend, and instead making a three way u-turn I tried to make it in one go, just because it looks cooler. I rode on that bike something like 15 miles at that point, had no idea how it handles, touched the clutch while turning, lost momentum, fell on my side.
Learned that you should know what you're doing before you try to impress anyone.

Second time my bike fell when my family had a party, I went there on my bike, and one of the guests sat on it while it was parked, started twitching as if he was riding and fell on the side with the bike. No harm done in my case, but the repair costs can be quite high, especially if it's a faired bike, so my lesson of the day was that you shouldn't let just anyone sit on your bike even for fun. Unless you want to show people around how to pick up the bike in a proper way.
